M6 J16-19 smart motorway- 70mph M6 J18-19
HIGHWAYS AGENCY has completed testing the smart technology between junctions 18 and 19 of the M6 as part of the M6 junction 16-19 smart motorway scheme.
This means that, further to opening the 4 new lanes between junctions 18 and 19, motorists can now travel at speeds of up to 70 mph and are experiencing the full benefits of smart motorway technology and this section is now fully complete.
What is left to do?
We’re working hard to complete the remaining construction work between junctions 18 and 16 as soon as possible and are on schedule to be able to remove all roadworks by the end of March, improving journeys for the 120,000 drivers who use the M6 every day.
A temporary 50mph speed limit will remain in place between junctions 16 and 18 on the M6 until the construction and technology work is completed and the whole project opens to traffic at the end of March.
