Further update, Coronet Pond

Report from Cllr Jewitt, today 24th July 2018

I have met with Ian Lamb (British Waterways) at the pond this morning.  He has assured me the fish are not at risk as there is still sufficient water in the centre and the water losses will be less as it pools there, the dry banks cannot suck any more water from the pond whereas the silt in the pool will keep it in. He pointed out the oxygenating plants which are doing a good job. The fish are lively and when we put some maggots in they were feeding which is a good sign.

Fish we spotted today where:

  • Small Golden tench
  • Orff
  • Goldfish
  • Sticklebacks
  • Mirror carp
  • Common carp
  • Rudd

United Utilities have been back to me and they cannot allow fresh water to be put into a natural pond as it would be classed as pollution because domestic water is treated.
